1 Hour Demo impressions – Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 was a game i had sitting on my Playstation 3′s hardrive for a few weeks now. If you don’t own a Playstation 3 PSN+ members on occasion get to play select full retail games for 1 hour before purchasing.Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 was developed by Ubisoft Paris/ Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. This game released just over four years ago on the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. For the record, i have beaten Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter on my Xbox 360 years ago. It was a good game.I started my 1 hour playing the single player campaign. At the main menu screen under single player there are a few menus. You have Campaign Mode, Quick Mission mode (select the chapter you want to play), Statistics & Scores (campaign stats), Ghost’s Headquerters, Bonuses and Credits. Forget all of that so i jumped into the main story after picking “Guarded Risk” which is normal difficulty. The story of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 has to do with a potential war centered around the Pananma Canal. The graphics looked extremely dated in the opening scenes.Half of my time with the demo was playing the single player campaign which was basically a tutorial. Its a good tutorial that teaches you how to take out enemies without taking gunfire. Take out an enemy stealthy. You are also shown how to use cover, aim and use your assault rifle’s scope properly. The tutorial was broken down into mini missions and that are scored by your CO. The tutorial also shows you how to use your smoke grenades while prone to sneak up on a tanks and plant explosive charges. The setting looked like a small desert village in Mexico.

The tutorial was good and served its purpose. I achieved pretty good scores on all the tests. After taking out a tank using smoke grenades, stealth and planting a explosive charge blowing it up your reunited with your team. Just like Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter you can select between 3 squadmates to command.Your given a Gunner (who takes damage and deals out damage), Rifleman (who is skilled at using long range assault rifles), Medic (he revives fallen squad members).

Cross-Com is a new feature that wasn’t in the last game. By hitting R2 (Playstation 3 DS3) you can open up cross-com. Cross-com lets you see as well give commands through the eyes of your squadmates. Pretty cool huh?  Say you hit R2 to bring up cross-com. You are then transported over to a squadmate. Say you want the squad to take cover you would just hit the up on the d-pad. Unfortunately half my allotted time is over at this point. Well, at least i was able to play around with a new feature that was pretty nice in cross-com.

Next up multiplayer. There were quite a bit of gaming options to choose from like Online Game, LAN Game, Local Play etc. There are clan rooms and leaderboards, ranked matches, quick matches. You can even make custom matches and private matches. I decided to keep it simple and jump into a quick match which was custom designed by the host. You can pick which class you want as well your loadout guns etc.

If you didn’t know, this is a third person tactical shooter in the mold of say SOCOM but not as good. I understand its a four year old game. The positive was that their are groups of people on PSN still playing this regularly. I was able to find a match fast and many matches were available to join. The problem is its extremely meh and pedantic. Its just boring to play.

The match i was in was called team elimination with 6 on 6. The map was a desert village setting. the graphics atmosphere and shooting were just bad. the connection was good and the game’s multiplayer ran good. But that didn’t matter cause the gameplay itself wasn’t fun. At least the music was good. I finished the match with 5 kills and 9 deaths last on my team. I didn’t attempt to try to play this game’s multiplayer after that.

I can say i enjoyed the single player more than the multiplyer regarding Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. Its an older game with people still playing its multiplayer on PSN (which is a good thing). I went into this expecting the multiplayer to outshine the single player campaign which it didn’t. To put this in perspective i can see this being a decent videogame four years ago. Thanks for reading. Have a great day.
