Madden 12 – Demo Impressions

It feels good to have football back doesn’t it? I happened to see the demo for Madden 12 on XBL (Xbox Live) so i decided to play it and write about it. It being the demo. Madden 12 is a football simulator developed by EA Tiburon and published by EA Sports. You will be able to play Madden 12 on your IPhone, Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Playstation Portable, Xbox 360 and Wii August 30, 2011.

The demo itself is really good and loaded with content. You have “Zone Coverage Insider” which is a video showcasing some of the new gameplay additions with NFL stars like Clay Matthews. “What’s New in ’12″ is a video style trailer showing off in game physics as well other details added to Madden this year. There is a “NFL Sunday Experience” that shows some of the pre game rituals like new and improved camera work that brings Madden to life. There is a screen shot section where you can view various screen caps from Madden 12 games. There is also a “Madden Pro vs Reggie Bush” video that shows how you can enter to win a truck for playing Madden 12.

Next up i selected Play Demo to actually play the game and not watch videos<—-sarcasm. There is a few menus of note in this section like Franchise Mode, Online Communities, Invite Friends and Exit Demo. You have the choice of two teams in the demo, The Packers (92)  or the Bears (85). I used to live in Wisconsin so i picked the Packers. The pre game ceremonies are impressive in Madden 12. The detail and camera work are particularly impressive.

Kicking off and punting are easy to grasp in this Madden. “Game Flow” is hit or miss with me. I played Madden back in the days when no assists were available. Granted, Game Flow does speed up the game since the AI is calling your plays. Some plays were bad and some good. As i played with the Packers i called many of my own plays which shockingly didn’t work in this Madden (in the beginning). Through bad play on my part i was down 10-0 at the half. That score would change for the better starting the second half.

The visuals look somewhat better but not by much when comparing it to Madden 11. The physics are improved you can feel the tackling and appeared to be more realistic from a visual standpoint. Passing, running the ball and playing defense came back to me as i continued to play. By the end of the game the score was 21-10. It was a good game all said and done. I had fun which is the most important thing. Like every Madden that releases some people will enjoy the new changes and some won’t. I don’t play Madden like i used to so i can’t comment on what i hate and love as far as comparing it to the last game.

Strictly from a gamer standpoint the game seems good. It ran well, played well. The presentation and sound design was nice. Good music too. The Madden 12 demo is robust and easily has over an hour of content. You can play 4 full quarters with 5 minute quarters. If you’re a Madden guy or gal you know your gonna play this game anyways. If your a noob to Madden it has you covered with Game Flow which will help you play the game like a seasoned veteran. Check it out. Thanks for reading.
